This section will further explore the close relationship between dogs and humans as well as its evolution through history.

During the Ice Age, about 20,000 years ago, large mammals occupied the Eurasian Arctic tundra and were the target of two weaker and smaller types of hunters: men

and wolves. 

These two species, instead of competing for the same prey, developed a natural strategic alliance improving the chances of survival of early human groups, influencing both humans and wolves' evolution, and emerging as one of the most

beautiful inter-specie relationships of history: man and dog.

In later neolithic times, humans slowly changed their hunting lifestyle to become planters and farmers settled in the Mesopotamia. This transition from hunters to farmers was the beginning of dog domestication.

The integration of dogs into men's new activities and the human deliberate control of their breeding to obtain desirable characteristics generated dog breeds.

The broad variety of breeds created the need for their organization and classification, resulting in the establishment of the first kennel clubs and associations by the end of the nineteenth century.

Today there are more than 200 registered dog breeds worldwide, all of them with a common ancestor: the wolf.

As dogs continued to fulfill needed functions in human activities such as hunting, herding, tracking or protecting, they were integrated to the daily life of any family.

Later, as communities moved to cities, companionship became the most popular reason for having a furry family member.

Nowadays dogs are wonderful pets and unconditional friends with different looks, temperaments and colorful personalities.

They are not only loyal companions and beloved family members, but also avid workers and dedicated assistants.
